Principal, Environmental Risk & Financial Solutions
Brian Benn specializes in environmental risk advisory services and expert opinions, including development of risk-financing solutions for environmental liabilities and exposures. For example, he has developed long-term environmental risk-financing programs involving the transfer, reinsurance, mitigation, and financing of environmental liabilities, asset retirement obligations and risks including climate-related and natural resource exposures. He has created environmental risk-transfer programs for restoration of tidal wetlands and conducted environmental cost-of-risk evaluations to facilitate financing for acquisition, remediation and redevelopment of large shoreline properties with exposures including landfills and impacted sediment, soil and groundwater. Along with the RbD finance team, he is pursuing innovative risk-financing concepts such as a regional Community Infrastructure Resilience Authority (IRA) and Community Choice Flood Insurance for Climate Resilience.
As Principal and Co-Founder of ER&FS, he has been serving clients across the U.S. and Canada since 2003, combining strong environmental technical expertise with deep experience in financial analysis and risk modeling for environmental cost-of-risk evaluations. His educational background includes a B.A. in Physics from Williams College in Massachusetts, and an M.B.A. from Ivey Business School in London, Canada. He is a member of the San Francisco Bay Restoration Authority Advisory Committee.
